Phonons & Fluctuations - Workshop in Paris 8-9 September 2011

The second workshop on Phonons & Fluctuations will be held in Paris, 8-9 September 2011. The deadline to register to the event has been extended until 23 August 2011.

The event falls has the aim of following on the discussions of the previous one held in November 2010 in the field of Phonons and Fluctuations. The workshop will bring scientists working in, but not exclusively, the European projects NANOFUNCTION, NANOPOWER, ZEROPOWER, NANOTEC, NANOICT, TAILPHOX, as well as the CNRS Network for Thermal Nanoscience and Nanoengineering.

Date and venue: 8-9 September 2011, Paris Gare de Lyon Conference Centre, Tour de l'Horloge

NANOENERGY LETTERS n. 2 - August 1, 2011

The second issue of NANOENERGY LETTERS has been published.

This is a newsletter created within the research project NANOPOWER (funded by
European Commission, under the FET proactive initiative "Toward Zero-Power
ICT" (2zeroP)) and within the coordination action project ZEROPOWER in order
to help the circulation of news and thoughts about micro and nano energies.
The ambition is to make it a useful instrument to discuss about these
energies, about their role and potential applications together with the
physical foundations of this discipline.
Most importantly, NANOENERGY LETTERS is open to the contribution of all the
interested readers and is specially aimed at reaching those readers involved
in industry and innovative SMEs as an humble attempt to bridge the gap
between Academia and Industry.

Scientific Session at fet11 on "Sustainable ICT: Micro and Nanoscale Energy Management"

Eric Pop talking at the Scientific Session

The Scientific Session organized by NiPS Laboratory (UNIPG) on
Sustainable ICT: Micro and Nanoscale Energy Management

was held in Budapest on 6 May 2011 during the Fet11 (European Future Technologies Conference and Exhibition - www.fet11.eu) and has seen the participation of 50 persons.

ICT energy issues formed the basis of the session which led together international experts interested in the realization of efficient low-power ICT devices. They discussed the basic mechanisms behind the heat production and how it is possible to take advantage of the fluctuations instead of avoiding them. The aim was to understand the energy management physical mechanisms at nanoscale with a view to setting the bases for a new thermodynamics of ICT devices.
